题目:Earth in motion: Improving understanding of geodynamic processes through crustal deformation studies in Iceland

(Institute of Earth Sciences, University of Iceland)教授,北欧火山学中心科学家。

Brief Introduction of Professor Freysteinn Sigmundsson

Freysteinn Sigmundsson is an internationally renowned geophysicist and a Research Professor at the Institute of Earth Sciences and Nordic Volcanological Center, University of Iceland. He is a member of Academia Europaea and a Fellow of the American Geophysical Union (AGU). He currently serves on the AGU Geodesy Section Fellows Committee and the committee responsible for major scientific awards of the International Association of Volcanology and Chemistry of the Earth's Interior (IAVCEI). He has also served for many years as a scientific advisor to Icelandic civil protection authorities and participated in international disaster response activities as a member of the United Nations Disaster Assessment and Coordination (UNDAC) team.

Professor Sigmundsson's research focuses on geodesy, geophysics, and volcanology. He has made pioneering contributions to understanding volcanic activity and crustal deformation in Iceland, particularly through the application of Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) and Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) techniques. From 2012 to 2016, he coordinated FUTUREVOLC, a major international research project funded by the European Union's Seventh Framework Programme (FP7), involving 26 international partners. The project advanced integrated volcano monitoring, volcanic hazard assessment, and the provision of scientific information for emergency response and hazard management. He received the Outstanding Young Scientist Award from the Icelandic Science and Technology Council in 2005 and delivered the AGU William Bowie Lecture in 2023. According to Scopus, he has authored nearly 170 publications; Google Scholar records an h-index of 62 and over 11,900 citations. His research has been published in leading international journals, including Nature and Science.
