Brief Introduction of Professor Omar M. Yaghi:
Omar M. Yaghi is a Jordanian-American chemist and recipient of the 2025 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. He is currently University Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of California, Berkeley, and also serves as the James and Neeltje Tretter Chair Professor of Chemistry and Founding Director of the Berkeley Global Science Institute. Professor Yaghi is a pioneer in the field of reticular chemistry. He developed two new classes of materials, metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) and covalent organic frameworks (COFs), which have provided important solutions for carbon capture, high-density hydrogen storage, and water harvesting in extreme desert environments. In recent years, he has been committed to advancing the new disciplinary paradigm of “AIMATRY,” exploring the integration of large language models to accelerate the inverse design of novel crystalline materials. He has published more than 300 SCI-indexed papers, with over 250,000 citations and an h-index above 190. He has received more than fifty major international academic honors, including the Wolf Prize in Chemistry, the Tang Prize, the inaugural IUPAC–Soong Prize for Sustainable Chemistry, and the Von Hippel Award.
